The city of São Paulo, Brazil, is looking to China for various partnerships.

The local government has inked a deal with Chinese ICT equipment manufacturer ZTE for the design, deployment and maintenance of two "smart classrooms" in public schools in the city.

A leasing contract was signed by mayor João Dória Jr, who is on an visit to China to showcase his administration's large privatization and PPP program and foster other partnerships with the Chinese.

There are few details on what will these classrooms will entail, except that they will "allow the transmission of lessons, projections in different formats, enabling greater interaction between teachers and students," the city government said in a statement, adding that ZTE will be responsible for "installing projectors, cameras, sensors, microphones, audio and video systems, servers and document viewers."

In another move, Dória managed to obtain a donation of 2,000 cameras and two drones from two Chinese companies. The equipment, provided by HikVision and Dahua, will support São Paulo's video surveillance programs City Cameras and Dronepol.

Doria had already secured a drone donation from Dahua Technology and DJI in June.

According to the reports, the mayor asked for the donation and the companies agreed. Known for his marketing style and heavy use of social media, the billionaire businessman-turned mayor said that the firms would gain "visibility" in exchange for the donation.

"Who, after all, wouldn't want to have the largest city in Latin America as a big showcase," he was quoted as saying by newspaper Folha de São Paulo.
