IDB to finance Uruguay-Argentina airport

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) plans to approve a US$50mn loan in November for the expansion and conversion of Concordia airport, in Argentina's Entre Ríos province, into a terminal that would also serve Uruguay's Salto province.

Entre Ríos governor Gustavo Bordet met with IDB president Luis Moreno in Washington to discuss the Concordia project, and said that the loan would finance not only the airport but also the integration of productive systems, border passes and tourism in the Salto Grande region, the provincial government said in a release.

Salto Grande entails Entre Ríos' Concordia, Federación and Santa Ana departments and Salto department on the Uruguayan side.

According to IDB documents, the airport works require US$30mn and entail overhauling the current infrastructure to handle both passenger and cargo flights, extending the runway from 1,600m to 2,300m to allow for commercial aircraft and improving border infrastructure, among others.
