IN BRIEF: Barrick appoints Pascua Lama project director
Canadian miner Barrick Gold appointed Sergio Fuentes as executive project director for the suspended US$8.5bn Pascua Lama gold-silver project on the Chile-Argentina border.
Fuentes, who previously served as VP of projects at Chilean state copper miner Codelco, will focus on optimizing detailed engineering, improving economics and developing an execution plan for remaining construction at Pascua Lama.
Work remains halted at the project, and any decision to restart will depend on the resolution of permitting and legal issues in Chile, the statement added.
Barrick plans to apply for a new water permit for the project in 2015.
