IN BRIEF: Work starts on Neiva-Girardot highway concession

The government of Colombia signed an order authorizing work to start on the Neiva-Girardot highway concession.

The highway, which connects the departments of Huila and Cundinamarca, is around 193km long and part of the country's 4G road-building program.

A 74km stretch will be widened to become a four-lane divided highway. In addition, a 21km section between Neiva, capital of Huila department, and the town of Juncal will be widened and 171km of existing highway will be modernized.

The public-private partnership project was put forward as a private initiative by consortium Promesa de Sociedad Futura Autovía Neiva, comprising Colombian companies CSS Constructores and Alca Ingeniería and Mexico City-based Controladora de Operaciones de Infrastructura, which is part of the ICA group.

Around 780bn pesos (US$235mn) will be invested in the project, according to information on the website of the country's infrastructure agency ANI.
