Intelsat partners with Aldea to expand LatAm fiber footprint

Satellite fleet operator Intelsat has expanded its Latin American terrestrial network through a peering agreement with Canadian global fiber network operator Aldea Solutions.
The agreement covers Aldea's entire network, extending to 35 cities in 25 countries, but with a heavy emphasis on Latin America, where Aldea has nodes in 15 cities. Intelsat also gains access to Aldea's connections to premium content programmers.
In turn, Aldea will have access to Intelsat's global video neighborhoods which house approximately 5,400 channels and reach 508 million households worldwide.
"By providing direct access to Intelsat's premier satellite distribution platforms through Aldea, content programmers will have an easier path to widen their viewership and monetize their content," said Intelsat's general manager for media Bill O'Hara.
In Latin America, Intelsat distributes top-tier sports, entertainment, news and education programming via its Intelsat 11, Intelsat 14, Intelsat 21 and Intelsat 34 satellites.
The four satellites deliver 670 channels to over 193 million viewers in Latin America, including 77 of the 100 most-watched channels, and nearly 150 channels in HD.
