Lázaro Cárdenas port seeking studies for tug pier

The Lázaro Cárdenas port authority, API, has called for bids to conduct a study as part of the 6.3bn-peso (US$262mn) expansion of the port in Mexico's Michoacán state.

While the estimated investment in the study on building a service pier for tugs was not revealed, the deadline for the tender will be April 13 and the winner will be announced on April 23, according to government procurement site Compranet.

Documents show that the winner will conduct executive studies, analyze permitting requirements and water conditions, in addition to looking at rail, energy and communications infrastructure, among other issues.

The winner "will plot out a polygon that should cover a minimum of 300ha, located to the northeast of the port area and limited by physical references such as roads and other facilities."

API organized a visit to the site recently and will carry out a presentation on April 13.

Six privately financed expansion works were earmarked for the port in the first stage of the 2020-24 national infrastructure program (PNI), which was presented in November.

These include a new specialized vehicles terminal, the second stage of a specialized container terminal (TEC), new and improved infrastructure for fuel handling and the new Sirus-Lázaro Cárdenas maritime terminal.

Five of these projects will be carried out in 2020, while the maritime terminal is scheduled for 2023.
