Mexico looking to complete US$2bn portfolio of priority water projects in 2023
The Mexican government is seeking to complete four key water infrastructure projects next year which involve total public investments of 40bn pesos (US$2bn).
The works will deliver a combined 16,300 l/s of water to Jalisco, Nuevo León, Coahuila and Durango states, necessary to help resolve problems caused by drought, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said after visiting the works to see their progress over the weekend.
These works are the 10bn-peso Agua Saludable para La Laguna project, which is designed to deliver arsenic-free water to the urban area of La Comarca Lagunera, in the border area between Durango and Coahuila states.
Water authority Conagua recently resumed tendering for the main elements of the program.
He also mentioned the 15.7bn-peso El Cuchillo II aqueduct, a 107km pipeline proposed this year to help resolve serious water shortages in Nuevo León capital Monterrey.
Works will also be pushed on the unfinished 11bn-peso El Zapotillo dam in Jalisco state, which comprises two aqueducts for capital Guadalajara state, and the 1.1bn-peso Libertad dam, on which the government restarted efforts this year in order to complete the project.
