Mexico's Quintana Roo state to receive US$2bn for 5 infra projects

Mexico’s federal government will allocate 42bn pesos (US$2bn) to key infrastructure projects in Quintana Roo state next year.

Funds will go to the 500km of Maya train stretches 5, 6 and 7 that cross the state, the Tulum airport, being built by the armed forces, the modernization of Chetumal airport, the Nichupté bridge in Cancún’s hotel district and the Luis Donaldo Colosio boulevard modernization.

“I don’t think that any government has allocated so many resources to Quintana Roo in a year,” President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said during his daily press conference Thursday in state capital Chetumal.

While Maya train construction has been underway since 2020, the other projects were announced or started or tenders were launched just after López Obrador ally Mara Lezama Espinosa assumed Quintana Roo’s governorship in September.
