The Mexican construction industry continues to struggle with a period of stagnation, according to figures from statistics agency Inegi.

The agency’s production survey among construction companies showed month-on-month growth of 0.1% in October, following a decrease of 0.2% in September. The Inegi figures are seasonally adjusted and in real terms.

The sector has shown a volatile performance throughout the year with repeated shifts between monthly increases and declines.

The year-on-year expansion in October was 0.8%.

Buildings represented 39.4% of the month’s total output, followed by transport and urbanization works (20.2%), oil and petrochemical plants (19.8%), other non-specific construction (13.5%), water, irrigation and sanitation (4.1%) and electricity and telecoms (2.9%).

The private sector accounted for 58% of the output, including 67.8% in the buildings category, which includes hospitals, schools, offices and housing.
