Panama extends deadlines for wind, hydro projects

The startup of a combined 129MW of new wind and hydro power generation capacity in Panama has been pushed back.
Information from public services regulator Asep shows that the commercial operation of Parque Eólico Toabré’s 66MW first phase of the 110MW Toabré wind farm is due to begin this July, versus the previous deadline of last October 31.
In its request for additional time, Parque Eólico Toabré highlighted blade damage to one of the turbines which delayed testing and the subsequent need to wait for higher seasonal winds.
The watchdog also accepted a request from Hidro Burica to complete and bring online the 63MW Burica project by March 2026 from June this year.
The hydro developer said that the environment ministry has yet to issue new certifications for previously approved EISs of the project’s dispatch component and extraction of non-metallic minerals.
Meanwhile, Asep extended Panamá Solar Integral’s provisional concession for the 250MW Cotaba solar project to this October.
