Pemex, Enel-Abengoa to form JV for co-generation build

Pemex's newly created subsidiary PMX Cogeneración has signed an agreement with the Enel-Abengoa consortrium to form a JV for construction of a co-generation plant to supply the Salina Cruz refinery in Mexico's Oaxaca.

The plant will produce 517MW of electricity and 850t/h of steam to supply the Antonio Dovalí Jaime refinery in Salina Cruz and the national grid, the state oil firm said in a press release.

The project will bring environmental benefits, create 1,500 jobs and act as a motor of industrial development, allowing access to cheaper energy, Pemex said.

BNamericas will host its 3rd Mexico Electric Power Summit on May 13-14 in Mexico City.
