Peru: As part of the Massification of Gas, MINEM plans to build more than 1,000 km of pipelines

This Minem release was published using machine translation.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) has identified more than 30% of families in vulnerable conditions throughout the country, to provide them with social benefits, in order to achieve energy inclusion in the regions. Among these activities is the construction of 1,000 kilometers of natural gas distribution networks in Lima, Ica, Piura Áncash, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Cajamarca, Arequipa, Tacna and Moquegua, among others.

In this way, the government will give greater and better impetus to the objective of the Massification of Natural Gas and will allow approximately 100,000 families to have energy at a lower cost for domestic use and economic activities.

For this purpose, officials from the General Directorate of Hydrocarbons met with representatives of the natural gas distribution concessionaire companies, with the aim of articulating efforts between the State and the private sector to achieve the objective set by MINEM and promote Massification naturally.

On the other hand, the MINEM will have more than S/ 491 million, for additional resources to meet the goals of the BonoGas program in 2023, financing the construction of networks to incorporate new towns and populated centers to the benefits of natural gas.

It should be noted that the BonoGas program not only pays for connections to homes but also to soup kitchens, shelters, health centers, social support institutions, Mypes and small businesses, allowing to reduce energy costs, generating savings of 50% compared to bottled gas. and allows less dependence on petroleum-derived fuels.

Likewise, MINEM intends to initiate joint work with regional and local governments in relation to the Massification of Natural Gas. In this regard, the Sector considers that the support of the Congress of the Republic in the approval of the "Law that establishes measures to promote the Massification of Natural Gas" is essential for the development of regions such as Ucayali, Ayacucho, Cuzco, Junín, Huancavelica, Apurímac and Puno, which to date do not have distribution connections.

Finally, MINEM has been carrying out actions to articulate and promote the projects of a petrochemical company, the South Peruvian Gas Pipeline, among others. In this way, the Ministry ratifies its commitment to promote the process of massification of natural gas and contribute to the development of Peru, with the aim of making the energy resources that the country produces in abundance available to more Peruvians, improving their quality of life and helping to close the gaps in access to energy.
