Guatemalan-Chinese consortium interested in Hondutel mobile stake

Financially strapped Honduran state telco Hondutel has seen interest from a number of international firms for a 49% stake in mobile unit Emovitel.

Those expressing interest include a consortium consisting of Guatemala's Fideco and China's Datang Mobile, Israel's LR Group, US firm Rhino, and Uruguayan state-run telecoms operator Antel, reported local newspaper El Heraldo.

Some of those interested in the stake to be privatized also participated in a tender in 2012.

No bids were submitted in that tender.

Hondutel reported losses of 189mn lempiras (US$8.9mn) through the first nine months of 2014, with full-year losses projected at 250mn-300mn lempiras.
