Puerto La Plata reaches deal to end TecPlata dispute

Buenos Aires provincial port administrator Puerto La Plata brokered an agreement between the Philippines' International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI) and workers at its TecPlata terminal.
In late March ICTSI announced the laying off of around 90% of the workforce at TecPlata, which led to demonstrations at the port complex.
Last year ICTSI reported a write-off of nearly US$90mn on TecPlata as the container terminal had yet to secure a shipping contract since being inaugurated in mid-2015.
Under the agreement ICTSI will pay TecPlata's laid off workers 70% of their salaries through January 30, 2017 or until TecPlata officially reincorporates the workers and begins operations, or until workers secure other jobs, Puerto La Plata said in a statement.
