Roundup: Transmantaro line EIS, consultancy call, World Bank report

The energy environmental affairs department of Peru's energy and mines ministry approved transmission concessionaire Transmantaro's EIS for a reinforcement of the north system with a second 220kV circuit between Talara and Piura. The company signed the 30-year contract for the 102km line with the ministry in August 2010. *** El Salvador's state power company CEL issued a call for bids for consultancy and supervision services for the 5 de Noviembre hydro expansion project. The contract entails reviewing and updating project documents; providing assistance during the bidding process; and reviewing the final engineering works and supervising construction, testing and startup. Bidding rules in Spanish are available here The hydro is the oldest plant of CEL's system, inaugurated in 1954 with 30MW and currently boasting 99.4MW capacity. The US$179mn project is due to be completed in 2015 and includes the installation of two 40MW units in a new machine house. *** And the World Bank released a report dubbed "Greening the Wind: Environmental and Social Considerations for Wind Power Development," with case studies involving bank-supported wind power projects in Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay.
