Shell's Dominican Republic licensee developing 95MW solar park

Dominican Republic energy regulator CNE has granted provisional concessions for two solar projects, which would add a combined 195MW to the grid.

One concession was granted to fuel distributor Isla Dominicana de Petróleo for the 95MWn Caribe Farms Solar I park in Azua province that would include 28.6MW of battery storage.

Isla, Shell’s exclusive licensee for the Caribbean nation, did not immediately respond to a request for additional information on how the proposed plant fits into the company’s business plans. The concession request was filed in September.

On Thursday, Shell published its updated energy transition strategy.

The other concession went to Caribe Energía Renovable CAENER for the 99.9MWn Caribe Solar project in Santo Domingo province that would include 30MW of battery storage. The request was submitted in November.

The companies now have 18 months to conduct additional studies to secure definitive concessions.

The projects would fall under renewable energy incentives law 57-07, which includes tax breaks and other benefits.
