SilverCrest announces start of commercial production at Las Chispas mine
Canadian miner SilverCrest Metals announced commercial production at its U$164mn Las Chispas underground silver-gold mine in Mexico’s Sonora state.
In a statement on Monday, the company said the declaration of commercial production, effective November 1, came after achieving two months operating the processing plant at a minimum of 80% nameplate capacity of 1,250t/d or 1,000 t/d, and showing a combined gold and silver or silver equivalent recovery of more than 85%.
“We have been impressed by the early performance of the Las Chispas processing plant and continue to work to fine tune and complete the ramp up. Our underground mining team also continues to ramp up the operation with a focus on refinement of mining methods and implementation of grade control procedures,” COO Pierre Beaudoin said.
The company added that the mine is on track to close the year at 600-700t/d.
