SOL Closes ISP, Transfers Customers to UOL

Brazilian Internet service provider (ISP) SBT On Line (SOL) will cease operations and transfer its 53,000 residential customers to rival ISP Universo Online (UOL) SOL executive director Leon Abravanel Jr said in a statement yesterday. The company's 2,000 corporate subscribers would be transferred to "other ISPs" within two months, daily newspaper Gazeta Mercantil (Brazil) reported. SOL belongs to Brazilian media group Silvio Santos, which controls the SBT TV stations. The group is refocusing its Internet activities on content development, Abravanel said.
