Spain’s Red Eléctrica advances Peru transmission project

Transmisora Eléctrica del Sur 4 (Tesur 4) has submitted a power transmission project to Peruvian environmental authorities that will improve dispatch in the southeast regions of Cusco and Puno.

The planned infrastructure entails the construction of the 128km, 220kV Tintaya-Azángaro (Pumiri) line and expansion of the associated Tesur-operated substations, which will connect to the national grid. Capacity in the area is currently limited to 138kV.

Tesur is a subsidiary of Spanish company Red Eléctrica which operates in Peru through Red Eléctrica del Sur.

Investment promotion agency ProInversión awarded Tesur 4 the 30-year concession for the project in November 2017 and the contract was signed in February 2018.

Construction will take an estimated 18 months.
