Standard Chartered appoints new CEO for Americas

The UK's Standard Chartered has appointed Julio Rojas as CEO for the Americas to develop and promote the bank's strategy across the region and lead on aspects of governance and financial performance. Rojas will take over executive responsibility for Standard Chartered's regional business from David Stileman, who will become chairman for the Americas to support its strategic development and client coverage. Both appointments are effective June 1. A new global head of financial institutions will be announced in due course, Standard Chartered said in a press release. In February 2008, Standard Chartered bought American Express Bank from American Express (NYSE: AXP) for US$823mn, leaving the UK bank with some US$6bn in assets under management in Latin America. In the region, Standard Chartered has private banking offices in Chile and Uruguay.
