Telefónica launches satellite broadband
Spain's Telefónica has launched a satellite broadband service that will bring connectivity to rural and semi-urban areas in Chile, according to a company release.
The service will be offered through the US$250mn Amazonas 3 satellite launched with Telefónica's unit Media Networks.
The satellite operates in the high-frequency Ka-band over Latin America, allowing Media Networks to offer high-speed satellite internet access to households.
The service will benefit 50,000 new users and 125 cities in a first stage, according to the statement.
