The construction of the Chinchero International Airport continues. To date, the construction of the structures of the international and national boarding lounges has been completed, and work is being carried out in the baggage handling and check-in area. This was reported by the Deputy Minister of Transportation, Ismael Sutta, who added that the completion of the airport project is scheduled for the end of 2025.

During his participation in the technical work table “Strategies for the development of tourism and road infrastructure in Cusco”, organized by the Liaison Office with Regional and Local Governments and the Third Vice Presidency of the Congress of the Republic at the Convention Center of the Municipality of Cusco, the official pointed out that it is one of the most important airport projects in South America, which will meet a demand of 7 million passengers per year.

The MTC representative indicated that meetings have been held with public and private entities associated with the project in order to unblock the delays that occurred in the schedule due to the rainy season in the region.

The vice minister explained that, for 2024 alone, an investment of S/ 512 million of the S/ 2,800 million that the entire project will require has been planned.

Airport access

From the MTC there is a vision to develop a road infrastructure that will articulate access to the airport from Cusco and also to the Sacred Valley of Urubamba. For this there are three projects:

Second stage of Avoidance - Cusco towards the district of Poroy: it is a highway, approximately 14 km. which begins at the end of the current Vía Evitamiento in the city of Cusco. It will have an investment of S/ 3,566 million.

Access to Chinchero International Airport: 7.5 km highway that borders the entire airport, from the province of Urubamba. It has an investment amount of S/ 242 million. It will be executed under the OxI modality.

Cusco - Chinchero - Urubamba Highway: It will be approximately 36 km long. It starts from the Poroy district and will have four lanes. The investment cost is S/ 916 million. It is estimated that the final study will conclude in May of this year.
