Uruguay unemployment on the rise
The unemployment rate in Uruguay increased in March due to the economy's weak performance.
The unemployment rate reached 9.5% compared with 8.5% in March last year and up from 8.4% in February, according to statistics agency INE.
Uruguay's economy slowed last year as it suffered the impact of economic problems in neighboring Argentina and Brazil. GDP expanded 1.6% in 2018 compared with an expansion of 2.6% in 2017.
Recession-stricken Argentina and slow-growing Brazil are together with China and the US the main export markets for Uruguay.
