With a pre-opening ceremony led by the Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow, together with the Minister of the Environment, Maisa Rojas; the regional presidential delegate, Humberto Aqueveque; the regional governor Cristina Bravo, gave the go to the new photovoltaic plant ' Gran Teno ', located in that commune.
This plant, developed by the company Grenergy , will produce clean energy and contribute to the national goal of carbon neutrality, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adaptation to climate change from the energy sector.
The Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow, highlighted that during 2022 there were close to 100 new generation projects in the country that injected 3.3 new megabytes into the system. “Our commitment as a Government is to double that goal, so that by 2023 there will be 4.3 GW and this is a project that makes it special, it is the largest solar plant that exists in southern Chile, which has location advantages that make it isolate themselves from the transmission problems that exist to the north,” he explained.
The plant consists of the installation and operation of a solar power plant with 655 Watts of energy each panel, totaling an installed power of 240 MW and will have a booster substation, sectioning switch and a high voltage evacuation line (154 kV) that will be connected to the Itagüe – Tinguiririca line.
“The Gran Teno project will benefit more than 60,000 homes with renewable energy and, therefore, plays an important role in our commitment that we have by law, through the Climate Change Framework Law, to achieve carbon neutrality no later than in 2050. In the coming years we are going to go from producing by burning oil, coal, diesel in a dirty and polluting way, to producing cleanly through renewable energies such as solar energy”, highlighted the Minister of the Environment, Maisa Rojas
This plant is contemplated with a useful life of 30 years, and is added to other projects that Grenergy has acquired in Chile for the long-term sale of energy of approximately 240 GWh per year and which are scheduled to start operating throughout 2023. , with a saving of 214,067 tons of CO2 per year.
