City of Buenos Aires, Monday, June 13, 2022. - As part of the collaboration to drive innovation and its commitment to sustainability, YPF will work with Microsoft to explore the use of quantum computing technologies with a focus on the development of transitional energy sources -- from traditional to renewable sources -- and the retraining of YPF's technical teams.

YPF intends, through this project, to reinforce the growth of the area of renewable energies and, with it, its commitment to sustainability from the development to the management and use of this type of energy.

The project began in April with a complete training program for YPF's Digital Technologies teams in skills and knowledge of quantum computing, a key technical resource for the acceleration and digital innovation of one of the most important companies in the country. It will be led by regional and global Microsoft experts.

It is expected that after the training, possible areas of application of pilot projects will be defined during the year 2022.

"We want to maintain our leadership, focusing our talent on the understanding and application of cutting-edge technologies, which will be in common use in 5 or 10 years, and which will mark a turning point in the ability to solve complex problems inherent to the energy industry. and its ecosystem," says Sergio Fernández Mena, VP of Digital Technologies at YPF

"YPF celebrates 100 years of continuous operation, with a strongly leveraged trajectory in the development and application of advanced technologies for the exploration and exploitation of energy sources. We want to complement our current portfolio of world-class digital technologies with technologies such as quantum computing, that require new ways of thinking and programming. Going through new learning curves takes time, and we want our talent to start building critical capabilities now that we will need in the future."

"It is an honor to continue with the cultural change that YPF is carrying out, with innovation and the incorporation of new digital technologies at the forefront," says Martín Sciarrillo, CTO and Director of Technology at Microsoft Argentina. “Quantum computing implies a paradigm shift, it has enormous potential and it comes to revolutionize the way in which organizations work and solve our problems. For this reason, YPF's commitment to learn and incorporate it into its operations in the development of renewable energies is key to the future of the company and that of society.”

In 2019, YPF began using Microsoft technology to improve customer and employee services and streamline its operations, including the use of artificial intelligence, the use of sensors, and flexible cloud computing. Today they reinforce their alliance to continue advancing in this transformation.
