Paraíba Coastal Cords System (Acauã-Araçagi Channel)

Description: The project was conceived as part of a solution to mitigate the impact of low rainfall in the northeast of Brazil. The construction of the new channel is divided into three lots and is part of the second phase of the Growth Acceleration Plan, which will seek to ensure the supply of drinking water and water for irrigation to 39 municipalities of Paraíba. The project includes 17 segments of open channels, interspersed by five sections of inverted siphons, built in steel tubes, to overcome river and stream valleys, seven aqueducts, railway galleries and highway crossings. The Acauã-Araçagi Canal was designed for human supply and to support agricultural production on its banks, where there are 16,000 hectares for irrigated crops. The system will benefit some 600,000 people in 12 municipalities in Paraíba: Itatuba, Mogeiro, Itabaiana, São José dos Ramos, Sobrado, Riachão do Poço, Sapé, Mari, Cuité de Mamanguape, Araçagi, Curral de Cima and Itapororoca.
