Description: The 118MW Dos Mares hydroelectric complex belongs to power company International Power and includes three run-of-the-river plants, Gualaca, Lorena and Prudencia, on rivers Estí and David, both tributaries of the Chiriquí river. To date, the power firm has invested US$285mn in the project, which started commercial operations in the first half of 2011. In October, 2009, the European Investment Bank approved a US$211mn loan for Dos Mares. The electromechanical equipment for the complex was supplied by French company Alstom.
