The Cerrejón coal mine, which has estimated resources of 1.961Mt coal, has several active pits: Patilla, Tabaco, La Puente, Oreganal, Tajo 100, and Comuneros. The mine's production, which is mined through open-pit methods, is exported through Puerto Bolívar. The mine is operated by Carbones del Cerrejón, a JV between Anglo American, Xstrata Coal and BHP Billiton.
