Brazil lost almost 40,000 formal jobs in September
Brazil lost 39,282 net formal jobs in September, after shedding 33,953 jobs in August, according to data from the labor ministry's employment database Caged.
Job loss, however, has slowed compared to September 2015, when 95,602 formal jobs were axed in the worst month since Caged started collecting data in 1992.
In the first nine months of the year, Caged said the country lost a net 683,597 positions, down 1.72%. That was the worst for January-September since 2002.
In the last 12 months, almost 1.6mn jobs were eliminated.

The sectors that saw the most formal job losses in September were construction (27,591 jobs), services (15,141) and agriculture (8,198).
According to the data, two sectors saw job gains in the month: the processing industry, with the creation of 9,363 jobs, and commerce, with a net 3,940 new jobs. The two sectors had also seen new jobs created in August.
