Argentina's Neuquén province awarded a 35mn-peso (US$2.2mn) contract to a group of firms to carry out feasibility studies for four hydroelectric projects totaling 1.25GW.
Consortium Intertechne-Hissa-HCA-Grimaux will have 16 months to carry out the studies for projects Cerro Rayoso, Huitrin, La Invernada and Pini Mahuida, all of which are envisioned for the Neuquén river basin.
All three would be built upstream from the planned US$1.8bn Chihuido I dam, a project the administration of new President Mauricio Macri has reportedly put on hold in order to analyze its technical and financial viability.
