Senate studies NP bill

Bnamericas
Uruguay's senate will review a bill to implement number portability (NP) in the country, local paper El Espectador reported. The bill is being sponsored by opposition senator José Amorín Batlle, who said that NP will boost competition and force mobile operators to improve service quality. The bill also stipulates the implementation of number portability for fixed services. Currently, state-owned telecoms operator Antel has a monopoly over fixed telephony services in Uruguay.
