The refinery in Cartagena, on Colombia's Caribbean coast, is now operating at full capacity with "continuous optimization," having produced 144,000b/d of oil derivatives during a 60-day trial period, Ecopetrol said.
"All units are operating in a synchronized manner and according to design," the statement said, adding that "in 2018 the refinery will be self-sustaining."
According to Ecopetrol, the refinery is now the most modern in Latin America and will deliver Ebitda of more than 500bn pesos (US$166mn) in 2018.
It added that the facility is converting 97.5% of crude input into gasoline, low-sulfur diesel and other "high value" products.
