YPFB starts selling urea in El Alto

YPFB starts the sale of urea in El Alto at Bs167 per 50kg bag, with the perspective of strengthening the agricultural sector in intermediate cities of the Amazon, the valleys, and the highlands of the department of La Paz. The vice president of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Álvaro García Linera, highlighted at the opening ceremony the point of commercialization of the fertilizer produced in the Ammonia and Urea Plant.

The state oil company, aims to rapprochement with municipalities of La Paz to socialize the benefits of urea in agricultural fairs that take place in Mecapaca (South Zone of the seat of government), Achocalla, Caranavi, Alcoche and Chua, places that have their respective potentialities in the cultivation of cereals, vegetables and fruits.

"Now we arrive with urea to the west of the country to support our brother farmers, we have already entered forcefully in the east of the country (department of Santa Cruz), the valleys of Cochabamba, Tarija and Chuquisaca," said the executive president of YPFB, Óscar Barriga Arteaga.

The potential of urea consumption in the department of La Paz, reaches 15,000 tons per year, taking into account that the arable land of the region is approximately 400,000 hectares, of that total currently cultivates 284,000 hectares.


The point of commercialization of the fertilizer is located in facilities of the Senkata Plant, Avenida 6 de Marzo in the city of El Alto. It has a storage capacity of 100,000 bags of 50 kilos. At the opening ceremony, the first 100 bags of urea were sold to agricultural producer Nilda García Colque.

The sale of the fertilizer will reach the municipalities of the department of La Paz through mobile sales, for this purpose a YPFB truck will travel through the rural area. Subsequently, other mobile points will be planned for the benefit of La Paz producers.

In the domestic market (Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, Chuquisaca and Tarija) and the external market (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay) were sold more than 200,000 metric tons of urea produced by YPFB, aspect that allowed to raise more than $ us 70 million .

The impact of the use of urea in Bolivian agriculture has to do with the recovery of cultivated land, incentive to the production of food, improvement in profitability obtained by production and food security.
