MOP opens US$46mn bridge to access San Antonio port

Friday, May 22, 2009

Chile's public works (MOP) minister Sergio Bitar opened the US$46mn Llo-Lleo bridge along the access road to central region V's San Antonio port, the country's busiest, MOP reported in a release.

Repairs needed to be carried out on the bridge even before it was opened after MOP found a series of defects in the construction work last November.

The structure, built by Spanish concessionaire OHL, will allow trucks to bypass the town of Llo-Lleo.

The overall project cost US$210mn and included the construction of a four-lane highway connecting the Aguas Buenas feeder road to the port, including a tunnel known as Trinchera. Another road was built to connect the Independencia area with the highway known as Camino de la Fruta.
