Honduras has begun work on a 38.3mn-lempira (US$2.03mn) sanitary landfill in Tela, Atlántida department.
Part of a debt conversion program run by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (Cabei), the project is expected to benefit 52,000 residents, the bank said in a release.
The project includes construction of a landfill to receive 15t/d of solid waste, as well as a lixiviates treatment plant. The Tela waste collection program will also be overhauled to improve its capacity and effectiveness.
