Chile's national irrigation commission, part of the agriculture ministry (Minagri), will finance a large part of a public-private partnership (PPP) to improve irrigation on some 600ha of land in region IV.
The PPP agreement signed by the Los Pelambres mining foundation and Choapa river control committee calls for an investment of 2.7bn pesos (US$5.59mn) for the three-year initiative.
The foundation will provide 150mn pesos for the project, Minagri said in a release.
Minagri aims to improve the efficiency of water use in agriculture by strengthening technology through private sector participation in irrigation and drainage projects.
