Mexico's Veracruz city water utility SAS is spending 670mn pesos (US$53.6mn) on water infrastructure projects during 2011, according to a company release.
The investment is being used for 30 projects including rainwater drainage infrastructure, extension of potable water coverage and the construction of a wastewater treatment plant in Tampiquera.
The utility has spent 11mn pesos on subsidence repair works following heavy rains throughout August and has repaired 1,453 water leaks over the past seven months.
A virtual monitoring system for the La Zamorana pumping station has also been installed as part of the utility's integral plan of action during the rain and tropical cyclone season.
