101MW Arrayán wind farm works slated to begin end-2010

San Francisco-based Pattern Energy's 101MW wind farm in Chile's Coquimbo region is set to begin construction in November, a company spokesperson told BNamericas. The company submitted an EIA for the project to Chile's national environmental regulator Conama in September 2009. If approved, investments in the wind farm are set to hit US$288mn, according to the EIA. The company will secure financing through bank loans, said the spokesperson. El Arrayán will entail the installation of 44 wind turbines in an area covering 1,335ha, and take 12 months to build. "We've included Siemens 2.3MW turbines in our EIA, but we continue to evaluate alternate turbines," added the spokesperson. The wind farm would connect to Chile's central SIC grid.
