Govt to seek US$210mn from Odebrecht

Ecuador's government will seek US$210mn from Brazilian firm Odebrecht due to alleged poor construction of the 230MW San Francisco hydroelectric project. The news followed the presentation by Jorge Glas, chairman of Ecuador's solidarity fund, of results from an international technical audit carried out by Italian firm Electroconsult. In September, Ecuador ousted Odebrecht over alleged irregularities with San Francisco and other hydroelectric projects. The Ecuadorian state will immediately begin civil and criminal legal action against Odebrecht and any others allegedly responsible, the government reported.
