Belize seeks supervisor for works on Philip Goldson highway

Nearly 26km of the Philip Goldson highway in Belize is set to be widened and repaired and the government is seeking companies interested in providing supervision services for the works.

The 153km highway is one of the most important in the country, as it connects Belize City with Mexico's Quintana Roo state.

The works will be financed by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (Cabei), which agreed to provide US$24mn for the project last year.

The notice, published by the infrastructure, development and housing ministry (MIDH), states that the winner of the supervision contract will have responsibilities throughout two stages:

“Phase 1 is to assist the government in reviewing the existing (November 2017) detailed design and make adjustments to its content and cost estimates, reflecting conditions that have changed since its completion and current cost escalations due to various national and international factors,” the document reads.

"Phase #2, of this consultancy is to assist the [Belize government] in providing project management of those road works, including contractor supervision and contract administration throughout the project implementation process, inclusive of the defects liability period," it adds.

Interested parties will be able to participate individually or as a joint venture with other companies. The winner of the contract will be selected according to Cabei’s quality-cost standards.

The deadline to present expressions of interest is January 31.
