Bogotá to seek national govt financing for US$1.1bn rail project

The Bogotá mayor's office plans to present next January the US$1.1bn Regiotram del Norte rail project to receive co-financing from the national government.

Mayor Claudia López said via Twitter that by the end of Iván Duque's government this August, the studies and designs of the project, considered the most important on the northern edge of the Bogotá region, will be completed.

The 45km electric freight and passenger rail project will connect the municipality of Zipaquirá with Bogotá, and will in turn connect with the Regiotram de Occidente, work on which will begin at the end of 2022, according to López.

The freight component will be the responsibility of the Cundinamarca departmental government.
