Brazil publishes auction notices for Santos port terminals

Brazil's government published the auction notices for the TS 14 and STS 14A terminals in Santos port (picture), Latin America's busiest, through which it expects to raise 111mn reais (US$19.2mn).

The auction for both terminals is penciled in for August 28 and the winners are expected to invest 420mn reais during the 25-year concession period.

"The publication of the notices is the first major milestone for the implementation of a new logic to optimize the use of areas in the Port of Santos," ports and waterways transport secretary Diogo Piloni said.

According to Piloni, a railway system will be built, so that "the transport of pulp in these terminals will be 100% on rails."

Brazil is a major pulp producer and exports most of it to Asia.

The government is moving ahead with its privatization and concessions agenda, despite the coronavirus crisis. It now focuses on more resilient sectors, like ports.

More details about the auction can be seen here, in Portuguese.
