Copaco planning to launch 4G LTE in 2 months
Paraguayan state telco Copaco expects to launch 4G LTE mobile services in about two months, CEO Eduardo Neri González was reported as saying by local news website ABC.
Copaco's mobile unit Vox operates through the Hola brand and has offered 4G services since 2012 via modems supplied by Huawei and ZTE.
Now the company is holding a public tender for suppliers of 4G mobile devices
Paraguayan telecom regulator Conatelawarded Copaco a block of 10MHz in the 700MHz band in September last year in compensation for taking away the 10MHz of spectrum the company held in the 1700-2100 (AWS) band, which was auctioned to private telcos at the end of 2015.
Copaco would join Tigo, a unit of Millicom, and Personal, which already off 4G LTE services. Tigo launched 4G this month using AWS spectrum won last year. Personal is currently being investigated by authorities for launching 4G LTE in the 1900MHz band last December after shunning the auction for AWS spectrum.
In 2015 Copaco narrowed its net loss to 7bn guaraníes (US$1.26mn) from a 47bn- guaraní loss a year earlier, ABC said.
A 14.8bn-guaraní loss seen in its mobile unit Vox offset a profit of 8bn guaraníes made by the rest of it telecom operations, it added.
