Uruguay has earned US$35mn in revenue so far this year from electricity sales to neighbor Argentina.
By selling power to Argentina at a price of US$300/MWh, Uruguay makes "a small profit," which it puts back into the national energy system, a government release said.
Some of the power sold is excess that Uruguay would otherwise not be able to store.
Interconnection with Brazil will be established this year as well, allowing it to become Uruguay's second cross-border power customer.
Interconnection helped allow Uruguay's state power company UTE to lower electricity prices last month.
Uruguay offers businesses that invest in energy efficiency measures a discount of up to 15% on their electricity bills.
