Brazil's Santo Antônio given nod for 70MW turbine trial

Brazilian power regulator Aneel approved testing of a 70MW generating unit at the Santo Antônio hydroelectric plant.

The turbine will operate at a limited capacity before it is considered for a commercial permit, according to federal gazette Diário Oficial da União.

Being developed in the northwestern state of Rondônia, Santo Antônio will boast installed capacity of 3.15GW when completed in 2016.

State-run power firm Furnas holds a 39% interest in the project alongside Amazônia Energia (20%), Odebrecht (18.6%), Andrade Gutierrez (12.4%) and Cemig (10%).
