Chile approves central grid hydro

Chilean environmental authorities approved a hydroelectric project planned for center-south Maule region (VII).

Special purpose company Hidroeléctrica Embalse Ancoa filed the EIA for the US$50mn 27MW plant a year ago.

The project complies with applicable environmental standards and establishes appropriate mitigation and compensation measures, according to the approval resolution from Maule's environmental evaluation service.

The machine house would be built at the foot of the existing Ancoa dam and supply the central SIC grid. Construction would take around a year and a half.

Hydro accounted for 58.3% of SIC output in November.
