Industrial malaise flattens Brazil power demand

Brazilian power demand was stable year-on-year in August amid plummeting industrial confidence.

Demand stood at 62.7 average GW, despite a 3.3% gain in the country's northeast, national grid operator ONS said in its latest bulletin on Friday.

"The performance of demand on the grid is principally explained by the reduced pace of industrial activity," ONS said.

The southeast-midwest region posted a 1.4% decline to 37.0 average GW while the south rose 2.4% to 10.9 average GW.
