SNAPSHOT: Bolivia's transmission expansion plans
Bolivia's power expansion plan includes transmission infrastructure to shore up transport capacity as generation plants come online and authorities envision electricity exports.
New projects and the expansion and modernization of existing lines and substations also aim to increase reliability. Information from national dispatch committee CNDC reveals there were 180 transmission failures in December.
The country's transmission lines stretch some 3,400km, with 530km due online in 2015. Lines Chaco-Tarija (138km) and Warnes-La Bélgica (16km) began operations last year.
State power company Ende expects lines Cochabamba-La Paz (275km), Sucre-Padilla (115kV 121km), Sucre-Karachipampa-Potosí (114km) and Yucumo-San Buenaventura (120km) to begin operations this year.
Medium-term projects under study include Anillo Energético del Sur (410km), San José-Santivañez (80km) and Santa Cruz-Beni (500km).
Another nine early stage projects total 2,023km, led by Mutun-Cotoca (616km).
The other lines are Tarija-Yaguacua (146km), Chimore-Trinidad (340km), Tarija (Villazon (118km), Villazon-San Cristóbal (205km), Vinto-Santivañez (124km), Ailquile-Vinto (212km), Punutuma-Las Carreras (181km) and Potosí-Punutuma (80km).
