Enel eyes battery storage for Peru
Enel Generación Perú, formerly known as Edegel, plans to install a battery storage system at its 498MW Ventanilla thermoelectric plant (pictured) to help with frequency regulation and grid stabilization.
To this end, the company has submitted a supporting technical report (ITS) to Senace, Peru's environmental certification service for sustainable investments, for the technology upgrade.
The project is due to cost an estimated US$8mn and take close to a year to put into operation.
An ITS is filed when modifications to a project with environmental approval are not expected to cause a significant environmental impact.

This month, Enel Perú launched operations of a new control center in Lima to monitor its 10 generation facilities, and which will remotely operate solar park Rubí, wind farm Wayra I and hydro Ayanunga, all due online in 2018.
