  • The renewable energy park has a generation capacity of approx. 90 MW and already has the authorization of the National Electrical Coordinator.
  • The supply of green energy that it delivers to the National Electric System is equivalent to the consumption of 36,000 homes in the north of the country, thus avoiding the emission of 152,015 tons of CO2.

ENGIE Chile's Capricornio Solar Plant obtained the Commercial Operation Declaration (COD) from the National Electrical Coordinator , officially entering into operation.

The park is located 35 km from Antofagasta and has a generation capacity of 87.9 MW thanks to its 249,210 photovoltaic panels, which will supply renewable energy to the equivalent of 36,000 homes in the north of the country, meaning a reduction of 152,015 tons of CO2 pollution.

The technology implemented corresponds to trackers, or intelligent followers, which allow solar panels to take advantage of up to 20% more radiation from the sun. These devices are capable of orienting the solar panels so that they remain perpendicular to the sun's rays, following the sun from morning until it gets dark.

The Capricornio Solar Plant comes into operation after the start-up of the Tamaya Solar Plant, located in the Tocopilla commune, in February 2022. All this, within the framework of the transformation plan carried out by the leading company in the transition energetic.

"We are very happy to finish 2022 by adding green energy to the National Electric System and in this way continue advancing in our transformation plan that considers the total development of 2,000 MW of wind and solar projects in the country," said Mathieu Ablard, Managing Director. GBU Renewables from ENGIE Chile.

This milestone is added to a series of initiatives that ENGIE has developed and implemented in Chile in line with its purpose of accelerating the transition towards a carbon neutral economy. Among its latest milestones is its expansion to the south with the purchase of the San Pedro Wind Farm located in the province of Chiloé as well as the closure of its last coal-fired unit at the Tocopilla Thermal Complex.
